How does one define creativity? That spark that strikes when least expected? The muse in person or place that brings new ideas to life? The innovative move or word that ‘pops out,’ filtering through a maze of thoughts and experiences? Although not easily explained, it is a marvel. One we treasure. 

The fine arts of painting, design, drawing and sculpture particularly captivate us, as do the mix of oil, watercolor or acrylic mediums that are used. It is why countless love to while away the hours in an art museum. Fascinated by works of past masters, we can be equally enchanted by offerings from today’s modern artists. However, these creative souls, like the great ones before them, have to adapt to the change swirling around them— Artificial Intelligence (AI) being a prominent one.

 Coping with advent and steady development of AI is no less important in the creative fields than it is in areas like industry or medical research. In fact, the commercial world is looking for every angle it can find with this new technology to cut costs and provide quicker delivery. 

AI— It is here and will continue to grow. So, how to harness it and allow art to follow unique paths because of it? Can it be prevented from overwhelming human originality? Instead, enhancing it? RISE is glad to welcome Alan Brown, a Fine Artist and designer for over 45 years, now retired. His businesses thrived in the greater metropolitan area. He is known for some of his elegant and fun-filled poster designs for our local arts organizations — the Opera, Ballet and Symphony Orchestra. A number of them have ‘caught the eye’ of the public over the decades. Alan’s art continues to be remarkable. Whereas his early career found him focusing on photography, now he finds himself increasingly engaged with multiple art forms. Discovery and exploration in his field continue to attract him. In particular, we think you will love his surreal works. He will share his creative endeavors and the way he has embraced the new AI form.
